Ocelots - Cats - Preserving the Species
The estimated world population of Ocelots is about 217 species. 108 Ocelot Cats are reported to be in US zoos. In fact, the species is an attractive sight in zoos. However, every possible step should be taken to preserve the Ocelot cat in the wild. The efforts of scientists all over the world should be joined to help the species survive. Ocelot Conservation Project is one of the steps to protect the species.
Ocelots - Cats - Conservation Project
One of the conservation measures, the Ocelot Conservation Project is considered fruitful for the species preservation. The aim of the program is to educate the public about the species, learn more about the species life in the wild, and advocate its rights.
Increasing public awareness about the Ocelot low numbers is the core of the project. It is assumed that no conservation measures are effective without realizing the importance of this wild cat for the ecosystem. Since the Ocelot is the keystone species in many ecosystems, it should be protected with all means possible.
Research work should investigate the issues of species vulnerability to habitat change, food availability, etc. Moreover, the project focuses on estimating precise population number of the species and develops guidelines for better conservation of Ocelots.
